How to join an Encointer community
Is there a community near you? It’s easy to join in. Just follow these 4 simple steps:

Install the Encointer Wallet app on iOS or Android (Play Store or F-Droid ).
02.
Follow the on-screen instructions to create an account and protect it with a PIN.
03.
On the global map, choose the community you would like to join.

Now that everything is set up, all you need is some credit. Here are two ways you can get some:
- Accept payment in your community currency in exchange for your product or service.
- Take part at regular ceremonies to receive the community currency, with no conditions or charges. You can find out in the Encointer Wallet app when and where the next event will take place.

All Encointer participants are entitled to receive their community currency as a basic income each week. To be eligible, you simply need to attend an Encointer meetup.
Here’s how to take part:
01.
Make sure you have downloaded the Encointer Wallet app and set up your account.
02.
Register for the upcoming ceremony when the app asks you to.
03.
The app will tell you when and where you’ll have to attend a meetup. This will be at a location in your area.
04.
At the event, you will meet a dozen other Encointer community members who were assigned to the same location. In the Encointer Wallet, tap “Begin Meetup” and enter the number of community members who have shown up for the event on time.
05.
Once all the participants at the meetup have completed Step 4, the app will display a QR code. All participants must now scan this code to conclude the meetup.

Do your community work!
If you’d like to form a new community, you’ll need around 10 dedicated persons to become bootstrappers. These people will perform the first ceremony and will be representative for the trusted setup of your community. Choose your bootstrappers wisely! They should be trustworthy, have a standing in your community and they should share the values of Encointer. Make them commit to be active community members and participate in ceremonies for several months at least. Also, aim at diversification in all its possible dimensions.
Dry run your community!
If you are a developer with some knowledge of Substrate, you can already get to work on our Gesell testnet . This will give you everything you need to establish an Encointer community currency in your area and distribute it among participants at regular meetups. This framework technology is provided free of charge by Encointer. Once testing is complete and you are ready to launch, you can transfer to our live parachain instance.
Partner with businesses!
There is no point in raising a new currency if there’s nothing to buy with it. It can be a great opportunity for businesses to partner with an encointer community. It increases their visibility, attracts new customers and demonstrates values.
